# Blown-In Attic Insulation in Naples & Fort Myers

### Planning an attic top-off or replacement? Get a scope based on your existing insulation, access, material and target R-value.

Thin or uneven attic insulation and air leaks can contribute to uncomfortable rooms and unnecessary cooling demand. An attic assessment helps separate insulation gaps from moisture, ventilation or HVAC issues that may also need attention.

Blown-in fiberglass or cellulose can be an option for a vented attic floor. Ideal Insulation serves Naples, Fort Myers, Cape Coral and surrounding Southwest Florida communities. Your estimate should identify the material, area, preparation and installation scope before a schedule is confirmed.

## Top Off Existing Insulation or Remove It First?

Existing insulation does not need replacement simply because it is old. Its condition, the attic assembly and access for needed repairs determine whether adding material or removal makes sense. [ENERGY STAR’s attic guidance](https://www.energystar.gov/products/energy_star_home_upgrade/attic_insulation) explains what to check before adding insulation.

- **A top-off may be appropriate.** Dry, uncontaminated existing insulation may be retained when its condition and the assembly allow. Check for uneven coverage and accessible air leaks before covering it.
- **Resolve problems before adding material.** Wet insulation, roof leaks, pest contamination or suspected mold call for assessment and appropriate corrective work. Removal may be needed; adding insulation will not fix the underlying cause.
- **Plan the preparation.** Discuss attic access, storage, removal, air sealing and ventilation baffles in the estimate. These items affect the work involved and the schedule.
- **Confirm the target R-value.** R-30 and R-38 are possible project targets, not a universal code rule. The required assembly and R-value depend on the project, applicable requirements and approved plans; installed depth and coverage depend on the selected product.
- **Compare the complete scope.** Insulation and air sealing address different paths for heat and air movement. Comfort and energy results also depend on the home and HVAC operation.

## Compare Insulation Options for Your Project

### Option 1: Blown-In Fiberglass or Cellulose

Starting at $1.20 per sq ft

✅ **Consider for:** Vented attic floors with suitable access and conditions

✅ **Energy savings:** Results vary with the home, installation scope and HVAC operation

✅ **Installation:** Schedule confirmed after scope and access review

✅ **R-Value:** Target and product coverage specified for your project

Consider when:

- • Existing insulation is suitable for a top-off
- • You want to address thin or uneven coverage
- • You want to compare the full installed scope
- • You can provide attic access details

**Scope note:** Loose-fill insulation does not replace air sealing. Replacement decisions depend on condition, contamination and access for needed repairs.

### Option 2: Batt Insulation

$1.49 - $2.29 per sq ft

✅ **Consider for:** Accessible framed cavities suited to the selected batt

✅ **Energy savings:** Results vary with the home, installation scope and HVAC operation

✅ **Installation:** Timing depends on access and fitting required

✅ **R-Value:** Product rating and cavity dimensions determine the specification

✅ **Condition:** Keep dry and inspect when damage or coverage problems are found

Consider when:

- • You're renovating or have open walls
- • The plans call for batt insulation
- • The cavity dimensions and depth are known
- • Obstructions can be fitted around without gaps or compression

**Scope note:** Batts must fit the cavity and obstructions correctly. Air sealing and moisture correction are separate considerations.

### Option 3: Spray Foam Insulation

$2.99 - $5.99 per sq ft

✅ **Consider for:** Projects where the specified assembly calls for spray foam

✅ **Energy savings:** Results vary with the home, installation scope and HVAC operation

✅ **Installation:** Schedule and re-entry depend on the selected product and scope

✅ **R-Value:** Product, thickness and assembly must match the project specification

✅ **Condition:** Installation quality and the surrounding assembly affect performance

Consider when:

- • You are evaluating a different attic assembly
- • The plans identify the foam type and application
- • Moisture and ventilation requirements have been reviewed
- • You can plan for product-specific ventilation and re-entry

**Scope note:** Compare the complete assembly cost. Follow the selected manufacturer's ventilation and re-entry instructions; there is no universal return time.

## How Blown-In Insulation Works

Loose-fill material is installed with blowing equipment across the attic floor. The [Department of Energy’s installation overview](https://bsesc.energy.gov/energy-basics/blown-insulation-existing-attics) describes even coverage and ventilation baffles. A useful project scope covers the following steps:

1. **Assess the attic.** Record the area, access, existing material and depth, and visible gaps. Identify moisture, ventilation, pest or other conditions that need qualified assessment or corrective work before insulation is added.
2. **Define air sealing and ventilation work.** List the accessible ceiling penetrations and attic hatch work included before insulating. Preserve soffit airflow with suitable baffles. Heat-producing fixtures, flues and electrical equipment require appropriate clearances and approved details; qualified professionals should assess these areas. See the [DOE attic air-sealing guidance](https://bsesc.energy.gov/energy-basics/air-sealing-existing-attics).
3. **Specify the material and quantity.** Identify the selected product and target R-value, measured attic area, manufacturer-required installed and settled depth where applicable, coverage per bag and minimum bag count. Depth alone does not confirm that the required quantity was installed.
4. **Install to the project specification.** Distribute material evenly, check coverage with depth markers and keep required clearances and ventilation paths open. Confirm the target against applicable requirements and approved plans instead of assuming every attic needs the same R-value.
5. **Document completion.** Confirm the insulated area, selected product, installed quantity and depth checks. Review included preparation, cleanup and any work excluded from the estimate.

**What to send with your request:** The property address, approximate attic area if known, access type, known leaks or contamination, and existing photos or plans. The written estimate should state whether removal, air sealing, baffles, hatch treatment and disposal are included or excluded. Roof, HVAC, electrical and remediation work need separate scope where required.

## Book Your Free Thermal Leak Scan — A $199 Value

Not sure whether your attic needs a top-off or further assessment? Ask about the free thermal leak scan. Infrared imaging can help identify surface-temperature patterns to investigate alongside insulation condition and other findings; it does not by itself measure heat loss or identify every cause.

The scan is free. Discuss the findings, recommended scope and estimate before deciding on an upgrade.
